About the Artist
Stacy Holmstedt has been making things her entire life. More than twenty years ago, she discovered mosaic — and hasn't stopped since.
To deepen her practice, she traveled to Ravenna, Italy, the city that gave the world Byzantine mosaic, to study at the Mosaic Art School. That training — in the same tradition as artists working fifteen centuries ago — informs every piece she makes today.
Back in the American Southwest, Stacy found her subject matter: the saguaro-studded landscape, the quality of desert light, the colors of geological time. Her work is rooted in place but speaks a universal language.
She has exhibited widely across Arizona, earning the Director's Award at the Arizona State Fair and showing at Found:RE Contemporary, First Studio Gallery, and the Phoenix Zoo Wildside Gallery, among others. Her work has been featured in exhibitions on themes ranging from the natural world to political commentary.
Stacy is now focused on large-scale public and institutional work — the kind of project where mosaic's extraordinary durability and luminosity can be fully realized.
